What is baptism? Baptism is an act based on the greek word baptizo, which means to immerse.
What is the meaning of baptism? Baptism represents the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.
Romans 6:1-6 King James Version (KJV)
1. What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2. God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
3. Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4. Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
6. Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
We are plunged under the water, which represents Christ's burial, then raised back out of the water, which represents Christ's resurrection.

What is baptism? Baptism is a form of circumcision.
Colossians 2:11-13 King James Version (KJV)
11. In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:

What is the meaning of baptism? It is a sign that we are members of the body of Christ.
1 Corinthians 12:12-13 King James Version (KJV)
12. For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
13. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
