The Early Christians And the Apostles Doctrine

Acts 2:41-42, 46-47 King James Version (KJV)

41. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

42. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

46. And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,

47. Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

Like the early Christians who followed in the apostles' doctrine, we also need to spend time in fellowship from house to house. This helps to strengthen the bound among Christians with each other and God.

When persecutions increased, the early Christians also had church from house to house -

Acts 20:20-21
King James Version (KJV)

20. And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publicly, and from house to house,

21. Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 16:5 King James Version (KJV)

5. Likewise greet the church that is in their house. Salute my well-beloved Epaenetus, who is the firstfruits of Achaia unto Christ.

1 Corinthians 16:19 King James Version (KJV)

19. The churches of Asia salute you. Aquila and Priscilla salute you much in the Lord, with the church that is in their house.

Colossians 4:15 King James Version (KJV)

15. Salute the brethren which are in Laodicea, and Nymphas, and the church which is in his house.

Daily Bible Verses 296-297
House To House

"These small fellowship groups served the growth of the church well... These small fellowship groups were conducive to growth. New members were assimilated quickly and thoroughly... The home groups enables the church to grow even in times of severe persecution...

The close, intimate fellowship that results from the smaller group creates a very close bond between members of the group. Mutual encouragement more readily takes place. It is in this kind of setting that fellow believers receive strength from one another. Humankind is created to stand stronger when united with others than when alone.

The above statements are taken from 40 Days (Prayers and Devotions to Prepare for the Second Coming), by Dennis Smith, page 106.

The above verses and statements provide a good reason to join a small church instead of a mega church.
